West Bengal is a land of creative expression which has produced men of artistic excellence and creative genius. Dipto Narayan Chattopadhyay is an exponent of that land, born on 9th June 1973 in Kolkata. He began his pursuit of art from the very childhood when he had barely started talking by embellishing the walls of his house with drawings and paintings using his father’s boot polish and mother’s lipsticks. Dipto has proved his artistic merit all over the globe. His brushstrokes convey a different dialect of vivacious imaginations. He is perfectly at home in realistic works where he exhibits exceptional skills of a perfectionist verging on photo-realism. When he turns to fantasy or abstract themes he lets his imagination run wild and pushes surrealism to a new level. Dipto’s mixed media creations are exclusive in the sense that he adds the third dimension to two-dimension by creating a relief on the surface, like brickwork. For all intents and purposes, mixed media works represent his main line of art which lends him his signature and identity. Presently a research scholar with “Raja Mansingh Tomar University” Gwalior, Dipto has done masters in Fine Arts with distinction from ‘Jiwaji University’ Gwalior and bachelors in Visual Arts from ‘Rabindra Bharati University’ Kolkata. He also holds a diploma in Visual Arts from Academy of Fine Arts, Kolkata. Dipto has always engaged himself in the wide arena of art and is in the constant process of enhancing his sensibilities. His relief paintings with its subaltern expressionistic idiom carry a distinct insignia, has earned him quite an appreciation and laurels. He has exhibited his paintings in more than 600 solo as well as group exhibitions along with workshops and camps in all major cities in India like Kolkata ,Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore and abroad as well resulting in State awards along with international acclaims. His paintings are in collection of all the ambassadors of the European Union countries for their respective embassies and exclusively by the Ambassador of European Commission. Dipto’s sojourn through more than 600 successful and critically acclaimed exhibitions and workshops show his voracious talent, extreme energy and insatiable creative thirst. On the path of fame he has experienced the art arena as an artist, curator, critic and most importantly above all as an astounding humanist. He has worked selflessly for the Save Child Fund of Ramkrishna Mission for seven years. Dipto has inspired and curated an exhibition involving the Tihar Jail Inmates, a unique and one of its kind endeavor in India in Nov. 2001.Dipto’s illustrations in the translated version [Romanian] of Ignited Minds authored by H.E.Dr. A.P.J.Abdul Kalam has attracted tremendous appreciation from our former President,an ardent admirer of Dipto's works.Dipto’s paintings adorn H.E.Dr.A.P.J.Abdul Kalam’s personal collection.
