My childhood was spent in small towns with close proximity to nature and villages, primarily why my work is so influenced by nature. I like spending time in midst of nature surrounded by ponds, rivers, and ancient tales. The place I grew up, had its folk art and music – songs sung by the women during festivals. All these hold deep significance for me and I hold them in great reverence. All these things find their way, into my work, which I mostly do in watercolors or acrylic. The fields with their varied textures, which keep changing according to the changing seasons – monsoon, winter, or summer, fascinate me. The water in lakes and ponds too is in a constant state of flux. While the surface is in an agitated state of motion when it is raining, the same surface becomes calm and quiet when it stops raining. All these moments in nature become part of my endeavors while painting. The old tales of grandmothers, a mother’s affection, songs sung during festivals, sowing, reaping, and such lively activities in villages – my endeavor is to incorporate these emotional and visual resonances in my work.
